General AgMap Information

  1. What is AgMap?

    AgMap is online agricultural directory. We're here to help U.S. agricultural businesses connect to the general public by providing listings that are easily searchable. Consumers can find the products and services and easily contact those businesses that would best serve their needs.

  2. How much does it cost to list my business?

    Listing Your Account is absolutely free for businesses located within Pennsylvania. This is due to funding from Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture to develop the AgMap. An annual service cost of $20 will be charged to the businesses located in other states.

  3. Who runs this site?

    AgMap is a product of the Land Analysis Laboratory, part of the College of Agricultural Sciences at the Pennsylvania State University. Funding is provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and Penn State Cooperative Extension,

Searching

  1. What happened to the old search engine?

    While it was quite powerful, the old version of the AgMap search engine was very hard to use. We've completely reworked it so that you'll only need to type in what you're looking for, be it a business name, product, service, city, or county. Try using the "advanced search" to filter your searches by distance.

  2. What does the advanced search do?

    We've removed the ability to filter your results by distance from the general search bar. However, if you select "advanced search", you'll be able to enter your zip code and a search radius in miles. The search engine will only return businesses that fall within the specified distance.

User Accounts

  1. What is the "User Accounts" page?

    The "User Accounts" page keeps all of your business listings, classifieds, and preferences in one easily-accesible place.

  2. Who should have a user account?

    Anyone wishing to use any of AgMap's advanced features. They can list businesses, classifieds, save searches, and much more . Those who wish to use AgMap to search for businesses without listing one of their own do not need to register.

  3. How do I create a new account?

    Click on the "Create An Account" link in the options menu to the right side of the screen.

  4. How do I log in?

    Go to the "Log In" page and enter your user name and password. Click the "log-in" button to continue.

  5. I've lost my password. How do I get it back?

    Go to the "Your Account" page and select "Retrieve Your Password" from the options menu to the right side of the screen. Enter the email address that you used when you created your account and we'll send your password to you. Otherwise, you can email us at agmap@psu.edu.

The "Your Account" Page

  1. What is the "Your Account" page?

    The "Your Account" page allows you to change your saved settings for AgMap's website. Business owners can also add and manage their business listings, classifieds, and image galleries.

  2. The statistics page says that my business site didn't get any visitors before January of 2002. Why is that?

    The reporting of page visits wasn't initiated until midway through January, 2002. Any visits you received before then were not counted.

Adding a Business

  1. How do I add a business?

    Go to the "Your Account" page and select "Add a new business" from the options menu to the right side of the screen. You'll be shown a series forms to allow you to enter your business information. Be sure to click the "next" button at the bottom of each page to save your information and continue to the next step.

  2. How much does it cost to add a business?

  3. AgMap was unable to find my business location. How do I fix it?

    The address lookup software doesn’t always find a match. For best results, avoid using box numbers and make sure your address was spelled correctly. If the system is still unable to find your location, use the pan and zoom functions to make your way around the map. Use the ‘change location’ function to mark your correct location.

  4. I didn’t see the business type or commodity that I would like to list. Can you add it?

    Send us an email or fill out the suggestion box at the bottom of the commodities and types pages. We'll add it to the database for you.

  5. Do I have to provide a "Business Highlights" section?

    No, you do not need to provide highlights for your business. It is in your best interest to do so though. This section serves to cover any information we may not have collected throughout the process. This information is read by our search engine, so entering anything that you feel would be important will help your business find more customers.

Editing your Business

  1. How do I edit my business?

    Go to the "Your Account" page, click "View or edit your businesses", and select the "edit this business" option under the business you'd like to edit. This will take you through the same steps you used when you first added your business. Be sure to click the "next" button at the bottom of each page to save your information and continue to the next step.

  2. Can I jump directly to a certain step in the editing process?

    Unfortunately, not at this time. We're currently working on it and hope to have it done in the near future.

  3. I changed my business, why is my business page is still showing the old information?

    Sometimes, your web browser may display a previously downloaded, or "cached", version of the page you're looking at. If you're using Internet Explorer, try pressing CONTROL-F5 while viewing the page.

Business Update Subscriptions

  1. What are business update subscriptions?

    Business update subscriptions allow business owners and consumers to connect with each other. By subscribing to receive an email update from a particular business, you can be notified of special events, price changes, and other important information. Your email address is kept on our server and is never shared.

  2. How do I send an update to my subscribers?

    Go to the "Your Account" page, click "View or edit your businesses", and select the "Email your subscribers" option under the business for which you'd like to provide updates.

  3. How do I stop receiving updates from a business?

    Each email update sent by a business has unsubscription information at the bottom. Click on the link provided and you will be removed from the updates list for that business.

    You can also unsubscribe by visiting the "business subscriptions" link in the "Your Account" page.
