Outside the maze is a giant ‘corn box’ filled with shelled corn and lots of trucks, dumpers, and scoops for children of all ages.
The market stand has great variety, including pumpkins of all sizes, from mini ‘Baby Boos’ to those topping 100 lbs. The pumpkins also come in a range of colors, including white, speckled, dark orange, and orange with green warts. Mid summer you'll see hundreds of lilies and other perennials and invite you to enjoy our gardens and antique farm equipment displays. Our business name honors our farm's listings in local history books as "The Evergreen Farm". We do not sell evergreens, but hope to keep this property "Ever-Green". Our beautiful location has been in agriculture since the late 1700's and in the Burkholder family since 1924. Dan and Margi purchased the main farm homestead in 2002. Our motto, "Preserving History, Conserving the Land" reflects our commitment to bio-friendly practices, such as generating solar electricity, using geo-thermal heating and cooling, maintaining our creek frontage in the CREP program, and using as many organic practices as feasible. We have been working to preserve and restore our historic buildings. Our large antique shop is open and filled with local and Pennsylvania historical items and unique gifts. Troop Farms is a continuous no-till crop growing business producing field corn and soybeans. A cover crop is planted following harvest of the summer annual crop. Our cropland is isolated enabling the production of high purity specialty field corn, soybeans and other crops to order.
We enhance our crop production system with use of nutrient management aids and multi-component plant nutritionals. ContaiN (NZONE Max + NBPT) is used to control nitrogen loss by ammonia volatilization and nitrate leaching when using urea, UAN and/or manure. Prevent is used with phosphorus containing fertilizers especially pop-up and starters. Prevent keeps the phosphorus from binding to minerals in the soil which makes the phosphorus unavailable to plants.

Welcome to Hummerhaven Farmstead. Our farm is home to creatures tame and wild, of two legs and four. We produce memories, understanding of the unspoken, connection with life beyond sidewalks and streetlights, unplugged options for hands and minds, questions and answers, dirty clothes, tired legs and smiling faces, wonderment, a quiet place to sit, listen, watch, discover and learn, a new sense of self.
The farmstead of Hummerhaven, offers a diverse group of species and breeds including dwarf, mini, and heritage. Our free range hens lay eggs hued in green, pink and beige shells with vibrant yellow orange yolks. When in 'milk cycle' our cow and goats give a creamy rich milk just enough for our family consumption. We raise livestock for homesteading, education, understanding, animal assisted learning not for market consumption.
Some things to do on the farm and nearby: Sunrise, feed a calf, milk a cow, collect eggs, feel a feather, pet a bunny, groom a pony, hug a lamb, feed a pig, shear a sheep, sow seeds, pull weeds, feel the earth, fish a pond, watch a frog, dip toes in creek, watch a harvest by tractor or team, 'pick your own' berries, apples, pumpkins, try homestead skills: make bread, cheese, ice cream, soap, spinning, felting, canning, seek native /wild plants, watch pollinators at work: bees, butterflies and birds, listen to songbirds, watch eagle, kestrel and hawk soar overhead, sunset, campfire toast mallows by firefly flash under starlight while owls and bullfrogs chorus, step back in time and evening at the Drive-In Movie. Relax, unwind, explore in our part of the 'country'. Make your vacation a "first time I..." memory.
Our farm has it's own rural signature. Stylized in ponds, creek, natural wetland, native plants and pollinator habitats, paddocks of livestock, acres wooded and canopied with aged hemlock, hickory, chestnut, maple, spruce, locust, walnut, and more, upland pastures with mountain top vistas. Guests houses, beds made and towels hung; your family's home away from home. Themed decor wildside, oceanside, countryside. Equipped for family fun: toys, cribs, highchairs, kitchen ready with appliances, cookware and tableware for your self meal prep.
Our farm has a story, a way to steward our land, a way to enrich, and preserve the PA farm way of life. Look, we are your farmer. Farming for adventure, for understanding, for the quiet side of life. Lose your world and find yourself in ours.

Laurel Forestry Company
AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
Forests are beautiful, valuable, and renewable resource.
A concern an owner may have at some point is deciding how to treat a woodland property. "Should I have some kind of a plan?" "Is timber harvesting a good idea?" "Will timber harvests conserve my woodland?" "Are the economic benefits worth it?" Laurel Forestry can help with these questions and support your forest conservation efforts.
Laurel Forestry offers the conservation-minded woodland owner an alternative to timber management, production-oriented logging, and especially, diameter-limit and "selective" cuttings. The alternative is ecosystem-based forestry practices that emphasize the conservation and ecological use of your woodland resources.

Mid Atlantic Native Plants
Mid Atlantic Natives is the native plant division of Superior Nursery, located in the Susquehanna Valley of southern Pennsylvania. We are an organic practice production nursery specializing in growing plants native to the north east, Mid-Atlantic and in particular our beloved Chesapeake Bay watershed and eastern seaboard.
The native trees, shrubs and perennials including grasses, wetland plants, and wildflowers are plants native to Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia, Washington DC, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Canada and many more areas of North America. All are nursery propagated from seed, division and cuttings and grown at our nursery. None are ever taken from the wild.
Our native plant inventory contains only those native plant species that existed in north east North America prior to European settlement. We do not consider named cultivars to be native.
We are an organic practice propagation nursery. We utilize biological pest control and OMRI or USDA certified organic herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers. We are committed to providing pollinators and wildlife safe, non-toxic food and habitat. Our nursery property is a National Wildlife Foundation Certified Wildlife Habitat. Visit us and see nature in action.
We spend our private time doing what we love most, hiking and exploring the forests, rivers and coastal areas of the Mid Atlantic. There is no more beautiful area than the one we call home. The plants placed there by Mother Nature herself are the ones we personally have a special regard for.
For years, even though our native plant selections were some of our favorites in addition to being beautiful, tough, ecologically valuable and economical, plants labeled "native" required surprising effort to find themselves going home with someone. Perhaps because they didn't come with flashy pot colors and huge marketing blitzes they didn't get much attention from time constrained consumers.
The fact that you are reading this is an example of educated consumers being smarter than marketers. We hope you continue your focus on native plants with us. No matter what you want and need, there is a native plant that will meet your expectations and do so with less effort, less expense and more satisfaction.
If you’re in the area we welcome your visit, you are of course welcome to shop in person. Please be sure to check our hours of operation prior
