Burkholder's Ever-Green Farm, Inc.
Visit us in beautiful northern Lancaster County . We mostly wholesale acres of asparagus, red and black raspberries, & blackberries, we also sell any quantities of the above and fresh and dried lavender and herbs, and related gifts. Also don't miss our large selection of antiques and vintage items in our shop. Owners Dan and Margi Burkholder have both taught school and grown berries and other produce since the late 1970’s. Over the decades, our business changed from (strawberries & many vegetables) retail, pick-your-own, and wholesale, to just wholesale. Now with retirement from teaching, we've reentered the retail farm business with a self serve produce building and new spacious barn for our antique shop. Mid summer you'll see hundreds of lilies and other perennials and invite you to enjoy our gardens and antique farm equipment displays. Contact us for educational tours focused on agricultural methods, high tunnel & trellising production, conservation practices, history of the property & buildings, and/or antiques & heritage. We also board horses with eight stalls and three spacious pastures. Tammie Stark of Stockwell Stables manages the horses and specializes in thoroughbred race horses, lay-ups, and sales prep.
Our business name honors our farm's listings in local history books as "The Evergreen Farm". We do not sell evergreens, but hope to keep this property "Ever-Green". Our beautiful location has been in agriculture since the late 1700's and in the Burkholder family since 1924. Dan and Margi purchased the main farm homestead in 2002. Our motto, "Preserving History, Conserving the Land" reflects our commitment to bio-friendly practices, such as generating solar electricity, using geo-thermal heating and cooling, maintaining our creek frontage in the CREP program, and using as many organic practices as feasible. We have been working to preserve and restore our historic buildings. Our large antique shop is open and filled with local and Pennsylvania historical items and unique gifts. Inventory ranges from primitive farm to Victorian to vintage; hundreds of pieces of Graniteware / agate ware, as well as wooden ware, tools, stoneware, bottles, fine glass and china, artwork, paper ephemera, furniture, farm wagons & tools, and much more. USA Gypsum manufactures multiple high quality gypsum products for a variety of uses, such as gypsum for lawns, agricultural gypsum, and gypsum animal bedding.
Gypsum is a soluble source of the essential plant nutrients, calcium and sulfur, and can improve overall plant growth. Gypsum amendments can improve the physical properties of some soils (especially heavy clay soils). Gypsum promotes soil aggregation and help prevent dispersion of soil particles, reduce surface crust formation, promote seedling emergence, and increase water infiltration rates and movement through the soil profile. It can also reduce erosion losses of soils and nutrients and reduce concentrations of soluble phosphorus in surface water runoff.
Gypsum bedding additives include products designed for poultry litter, free stalls, stanchion barns and bedding packs. We also offer several grades of barn dry. A chemical reaction between gypsum and ammonia in urine ties up the ammonia in the form of ammonium sulfate. Odor is reduced and the environment in the building improved. Because Gypsum Bedding combined with manure is spread on croplands, it has additional value as a source of additional Nitrogen, Calcium and Sulfur. Most farmers purchase these products for their crops so the cost of Gypsum bedding is recovered.
Use per USAD-NRCS CONSERVATION PRACTICE STANDARD

Parsons Tree Farm
The Parsons Tree Farm is a family owned and operated Christmas tree farm in Centre County. Located near State college at 1503 Dix Run Road, Julian PA 16844, the farm has been in the Parsons family since 1921. Bill Parsons, who past away in February, bought the farm from his father, Jesse Parsons, in 1968. That year, the first Christmas trees were planted on erodible land as a method to conserve soil. During the summer, Janet Parsons and Eddie Parsons prune and care for the trees.
The farm is a "select and cut your own" Christmas tree farm. Families enjoy pursuing and cutting their own special tree. At the “old barn”, the trees are “shaken” to remove loose needles, baled and even drilled for center spike tree stands. While the tree is being prepared for trimming, the families can enjoy hot chocolate, and treats.
Trees can be selected early in the season and then cut and purchased later. Tags are available at the farm in early November. Handmade wreaths are also available for purchase.
Buy locally and reduce your carbon foot print. At Christmas time, only the trees that are sold are cut. Once a tree is cut, a new seedling tree is planted in its place the following spring . The trees reduce erosion, are bio-degradable, and are recyclable as mulch. This Christmas, stop and say hello to the Parsons, Janet and Eddie, as they try to make your Christmas tradition of selecting a tree an enjoyable one.
Kneehigh Farm is a woman-run vegetable farm located on seven acres in Chester County. Over 100 varieties of Certified Naturally Grown veggies are grown for our CSA (Community Support Agriculture), Farmers’ Market, and local restaurants. Kneehigh Farm prioritizes high quality produce, ethical practices, healthy soil and happy people. We are committed to creating connections between families, their food, and their farmers.
Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, is a model of farming based on a mutually beneficial and direct relationship between consumer and farmer. Members, or ‘shareholders’, support the farm by purchasing their share upfront before the season begins. This allows the farmer to purchase seeds, supplies, and tools for the year without the stress of taking out loans or blindly investing capital up front. In turn, the farmers commit to supplying the consumers with a steady load of seasonal produce throughout a designated number of weeks.
Kneehigh Farm is based on the values of regenerative, rather than sustainable practices. As stewards of the land, we strive to nourish our community through nourishing the farm. Learning to work with the land, rather than against it teaches us humility, admiration, flexibility, and pride. By listening to the capacities and needs of the farm, we create a commitment to the food grown, and in turn, our community.
Each CSA box is different and unique, depending on the season. At Kneehigh Farm, we try and strike a balance between introducing new varieties, and providing staple crops, so our members don’t feel discouraged or overburdened by produce. Here’s what to expect throughout the year:
Spring: Arugula, Asian greens, baby lettuce, beets, broccoli, bunching onions/scallions, cabbage (green, red, savoy, napa), carrots, chard, cauliflower, dill, fennel, garlic scapes, kale, mustard greens, radishes, salad turnips, spinach, peas…
Summer: Basil, beets, snap beans, carrots, celery, chard, cherry tomatoes, cilantro, cucumbers, dill, eggplant, fennel, garlic, ground cherries, lettuce, leeks, peppers (hot and bell/frying), melons, okra, parsley, potatoes, shallots, summer squash, tomatillos, tomatoes, etc.
Fall: Arugula, lettuce, beets, broccoli, snap beans, cabbage, carrots, celeriac, chard, cilantro, collards, cauliflower, dill, eggplant, fennel, peppers, kale, leeks, mustard greens, parsley, parsnips, potatoes, pumpkins, radishes, rutabaga, salad turnips, shallots, etc...

The Kuhn Family Farm
Our family farming history began back in the early 1700's in what was than known as Saxony, Germany. Our ancestors left Germany on April 20, 1734, aboard the ship St. Andrew, mastered by Capt. John Stedman. They landed at what is now known as Penn's Landing in Philadelphia, PA. On Sept. 22, 1734 they settled our family's first "New World" farm near Society Run in Frederick Township, Montgomery County, Pa. Pig farming was our family's specialty from 1734 until the mid 1950s. A lot has changed since then.
We organically maintain 80 acres, comprising of 22 acres in rotational grazing paddocks, with alfalfa & mixed grass hay on the balance acres.
Our Christ centered cow?calf operation is a closed herd of 100% Grass-fed full-blood Beefalo. We individually evaluate and score our bulls & heifers for fleshing ability, thickness, muscling, masculinity, disposition, hair coat and fly resistance. Seeing is believing!
We specialize in producing cows that are of moderate size (frame score of 3-5 with mature weight of 1,000-1,200 lbs.); easy-fleshing with an ability to maintain good body condition on limited feed resources; and structurally sound.
We keep our Calving in sync with nature, which matches the cow's highest nutritional requirements to our farms highest and best production of fresh forages.
We also breed and raise 40 to 45 year-round pastured Tam-Roc cross pigs annually. Our poultry consists of 100 Free Ranged/pastured broilers; and 40-50 brown egg layers.
A wealth of information and additional photos about us and our Farm/Ranch's past, present & future can be found at our web-site at: http://www.KuhnFamilyFarm.com
