Established in 1993, the Pure Earth Organic Farm, was founded on 30 acres of rented land near the city of Pittsburgh, growing organic vegetables for Farmer's Markets and wholesale outlets throughout the city.
In 2001, the farm moved and expanded to 85 acres, 2 hours North of Pittsburgh, near Meadville, PA. We are still growing, expanding, and purchasing more acreage (we are now up to 110 acres), to build the farm business infrastructure and protect as much land from development and environmental distress as possible.
In 2006 we changed our legal status from a sole proprietorship to a Limited Liability Company (LLC).
Organic Garlic is our main crop, and we also occasionally have small amounts of vegetables, fruit, herbs, flowers and other healthy crops available depending on the season. We were formerly Certified Organic by OCIA International and carried duel certification USDA/OCIA International(IFOAM), but after that expired in Nov. 2008, we switched to an alternate certification called "Certified Naturally Grown (CNG)." It is a grassroots certification agency that uses the same organic standards, but it is much less expensive than Certified Organic, and geared for smaller family farms like ours.
