Lancaster Central Market started before 1730 and has operated in the same general location since. Local farmers, bakers, orchards, butchers and others participate in the 110 year old architectually significant building in downtown Lancaster 3 days a week. King George II chartered the market in 1742. It remains vibrant to this day. The brick and masonry Victorian building is considered a certerpiece of the active downtown. The recently approved Central Market Trust is striving to make the Central Market Business District an important part of Lancaster for the next 100 years. Hidden behind the tallest buildign downtown (Griest Building), the market has ample nearby parking. A call to the marketmaster Tues, Fri or Sat mornings will elicit detailed instructions on the location.
