About Us:

FRESH FROM THE VINES, Meadville, PA, is a family farm committed to growing nutritious vegetables and fruits and has a bakery making the freshest products using natural and organic ingredients. Our commitment includes: farming sustainably, providing fresh food for our community and offering education to those who would like to learn more about the foods they eat.

We grow our vegetables in high tunnels and in open air gardens. The high tunnels allow for production almost year round and offer fresh food well beyond the standard growing season. Beginning in March, we start our plants from organic seeds and grow them inside until it is warm enough to move them to the high tunnels, usually around the first of May. April is the month that crops are direct seeded in the high tunnel beds, such as our gourmet lettuce mix, spinach and kale. May begins the preparations of the outdoor garden beds and the planting of peas and beets, potatoes and corn. The first part of June is the busy time of planting all the seedlings and direct seeding the rest of the warm weather crops like beans and squash.

At Fresh From The Vines, we amend our soil with compost that we make from plant debris, manure from our chickens, mini donkeys and alpacas and food scraps. The compost sits and ‘cooks' for at least a year before being mixed into our raised beds. Seaweed Meal is added to ensure all the trace minerals are available to our precious plants. Throughout the growing season, compost tea is applied on a rotational basis to give a nutritious boost to all the crops.

Harvest time is almost all year long. The months of January and February are iffy, depending on the weather. The lettuce, kale and spinach will survive the cold temperatures and short hours of sunlight, but don't really grow during that period. March brings warmer temperatures and longer days and the over-wintered greens begin growing again for an early harvest the end of the month.

Our bakery uses organic ingredients whenever possible to bake up delicious breads, muffins, cookies and many other treats. Most of our ingredients are sourced locally and regionally as we choose to support our area's economy.

You may find our products at the Farmer's Market at the Market House in Meadville, PA May through November on Saturdays from 8:00 am til 1:00 pm as well as inside the Market House year round. The Whole Foods Cooperative in Erie, PA also carries our products year round.
