About Us:
Out standing in the field!
Harford Farm is a small family farm, NOFA-NY Certified Organic LLC, and sells vergetables, herbs and cut flowers at the Cooperative Farmers Market of Scranton on Mondays and Fridays. The market opened for the year on July 17. Matt Severson, former chef at Summerhouse Grill in Montrose, is working with us again this year to come up with recipes for our products, so we'll keep you posted as to what's in store.
We grow varieties for the best taste and color, not because they ship well. We're always trialing new varieties, but the old heirlooms are a particular favorite. Since I start tomato plants from seed in a passive solar greenhouse, I can grow tomatoes like Brandywine, Orange Banana, Black Krim, and Green Zebra. I also grow rows of the favorite cherry (Sunsugar/Sungold) and grape tomatoes. Our other specialties are salad mix and a variety of greens all year, and baby summer squash in all colors and shapes. And of course there are the cut sunflowers and the wheatgrass.
The vegetables being a bit late in Susquehanna County, we often have a wide assortment of potted herbs and container plants early in the year. They get pushed off the truck as more vegetables and flowers mature, or once they're too big to carry around! We'll have sprouts (lentils, wheatgrass, pea shoots), potted herbs, flowers, foliage plants and sometimes landscaping shrubs.
