Eagle Point Farm was started in 1982. Owner Steve was then a researcher for The Rodale Research Center. At that time the Horticulture department was downsized and Steve and his wife Gayle started growing and selling baby and standard vegetables to upscale restaurants in the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas, along with running a huckster route to some 600 homes in Allentown. In 1986 they purchased the present site of their farm market on Rt. 100 in Trexlertown, PA. Opening their doors in July, 1987 they started selling their own farm raised fruits and vegetables in addition to other local produce, bedding plants, baked goods, jams and preserves. Since that time they have expanded into greenhouse production. They are now well known for their unusual selection of perennials and herbs along with the more familiar varieties of bedding plants. The Gansers grow over 400 varieties of perennials and herbs, many hard to find cultivars. They continue to grow a wide selection of fruits and vegetables sustainably. Over the years the store has added locally made cheeses and artisan breads from surrounding bakeries to the list of locally grown and produced items. Presently Steve serves on the board of the Pennsylvania Marketing and Research Board, Gayle is a board member for Buy Fresh Buy Local/Lehigh Valley and both Steve and Gayle are part of the Seed Farm, Incubator farmers project in Lehigh Valley. As the growing season draws to a close Steve and Gayle gear up for the Christmas season. They carry fresh cut PA grown trees, fresh greens, poinsettias, and custom made gift baskets. They also hand make all their own wreaths with fresh greens gathered at a friend's tree farm. Wreaths can be bought plain or custom decorated by Gayle. Each season brings a new reason to visit Eagle Point Farm Market.
