Our Conservation District provides guidance and information on the Pennsylvania Nutrient Management Law. The staff is available to review and approve all ACT 6 plans and make compliance checks and receive complaints. In addition our Agricultural staff can develop conservation plans, prepare designs for conservation practices, and conduct field work for the installation of Best Management Practices using the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service standards and specifications.
Our District is and active member of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Project Grass Chapter and we actively promote and provide advise, design, and at times financial assistance for the installation of Rotational Grazing Systems for agricultural production.
To promote good stewardship of the land the Washington County Conservation District owns and rents a 10 ft. Vermeer No-till seeder. The seeder has three seed boxes and can plant a vairety of seed types. The rental fee varies with the number of acres planted but averages $9.00 per acre. The seeder is available for Washington County farmers only.
We also provide guidance and assistance in applying for Clean Strems Laws permits related to stream crossings, spring developments, and other practices that encourch on the waters of the Commonwealth.
