About Us:
The Blair County Conservation District was established pursuant to Pennsylvania's Act 217 on January 5, 1966 by the County's Board of Commissioners. The mission of the Blair County Conservation District "is the protection, preservation and enhancement of Blair County's natural resources by providing technical assistance and educational guidance". The District has identified six Critical Natural Resource Issues for Blair County: Water, Planning, Education and Government Assistance, Preservation, Biodiversity and Soil.
The District coordinates available technical, financial and educational resources and focuses them to meet the needs of interested individuals for the conservation of soil, water and other natural resources.
The Blair County Consevation District provides service to landowners, operators as well as the general public and government entities. Primary efforts are centered on the agricultural, development and educational community. The District seeks to ensure resource conservation through the administration of various government and District sponsored programs.
Programs offered through the Blair County Conservation District include but are not limited to: Erosion Control; NPDES Permitting; Ag Conservation Best Management Practices Funding & Implementation; Nutrient Management Planning; Farmland Preservation through the Purchase of Agricultural Conservation Easements; Watershed Planning, Restoration and Enhancement; Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Data Layer Creation; Utilization and Management; Educational Presentations and Training; Sponsorship to "Ag in the Classroom" program and the PSU Conservation Leadership School.
