UNIVERSITY PARK - Penn State has developed an interactive website, which can help consumers, farmers, and businesses find local producers of commodities. All you need to use AgMap is a computer with Internet access.

The site, called AgMap, offers a searchable database that includes products grown or made around the Keystone State. The site includes complete descriptions of these products and tells how to find and contact the growers and producers directly.

Farmers follow a few simple steps to add information about their businesses: Type in your zip code to bring up a map of your area, zoom in on your location, or type in your address, and answer questions that provide buyers with information they want to know.

AgMap lets consumers search for services based on location, products, and service types. For example, someone looking for pick-your-own strawberries, would visit AgMap, enter your home location, and ask for a search of strawberry growers within a 20-mile radius; AgMap would provide a list of growers and a map of their locations.

AgMap is located at http://agmap.psu.edu. Information: Dr. Rick Day, 1-877-722-4724.
